1) More kid friendly and better social life
2) Easy to find maintenance people
3) Lots activities on-site so the kids/adults can go to classes at the clubhouse and it's well advertised.
4) More eco-friendly
5) Cheaper rent and more friendly towards renters. Our previous community penalized us for being renters (charged more for electricity, water, didn't invite renters to their events and we were not allowed to join their yahoogroups)
6) No snakes here. At our previous home, I was in constant fear of running into a snake as everyone else had seen one.
7) Better sense of security.
Cons:
1) You wake up to kids playing and cars honking in the distant. At our previous home, we used to wake up to birds chirping and it was so quiet and peaceful.
2) Very crowded on the lawns, we used to have lots of open spaces at the previous home.
3) Less privacy.
4) My mother almost got smacked by a mango seed that was thrown from their balcony during her walk the other day. The garbage is picked up every day and yet people behave as if there is nowhere to throw the garbage :-( The yahoogroups is full of emails of people complaining about this problem especially those on the ground floor that are on the receiving end.
5) When the power goes out, it takes a few minutes for the backup to kick in. We may have to get our backup so we don't have this lapse, it's a pain when you're online and the VPN drops. We had instant backup at our previous home.
6) It's a pain to carry the groceries from the car to the apartment, it was far more convenient at the house.
7) We have a smaller capacity geyser, so we run out of hot water in the middle of shower :-(
8) Sindhu loved our previous home but likes the social aspect of the apartment so her ideal place would be living in that house but in this complex.
Overall, we're happier here at the apartment.
