Little Roshan and our Chennai Trip

We made a short trip to Chennai this weekend to see Manju and Tk's recent addition to their family. Roshan being only 9 nine weeks old travelled halfway across the world to spend time with his doting grandparents. He is absolutely adorable and I spent most of the few hours we were there holding him in my arms. Although he was quite jetlagged, he did give us a few smiles and woke up for a few minutes before he fell asleep again. It's been almost 8 months since we saw Manju and we were thrilled to be able catch up with all the news over the past few months. We finally got to see the 2008 Yearbook that Manju compiled, what a treasure, 5-10 years from now, we'll cherish it even more when our memories start fading and this book will serve as reminder of all the good times we had. Chennai was miserably hot and humid! Prasad had vowed never to step foot in Madras in the summer but seeing Manju and Roshan was totally worth it. Prasad even sampled TK's mom's cooking which was delicious.

We saw my pinni (mother's sister), babai, babai's sister and husband. I had not seen my babai's sister in 20 years so we caught up after all these years. My pinni made sour mango dal and we sampled her mouth watering freshly made avakaya (mango pickle)! We also made a short stop at Prasad's athaya's (his dad's sister) house, they had just landed from a US trip and were lamenting that they had to go back to work. Prasad's aunt is a principal at a reputable school in Madras. She shared some of the pressures she had as a principal and it was interesting to get her perspective especially since many of issues she has to deal with on a day-to-day basis are the same complaints I have had with S & R's schools, it was interesting to see her side of things.

Except for the heat, overall a great trip! The next couple of weeks will be crazy, we'll be moving to our apartment on Friday, Prasad is away on business for a couple of days this week, and the kids have only 1/2 days for the next 2 weeks before they are let out for the summer. I still have reservations about the move but hopefully the kids and we will enjoy our stay there. Anyway, the point of this being that I probably won't be blogging much until things settle down on the home front.
