The primary school Sports Day is this Friday. Today they had drills and the finals for some of the events so I attended. Sports Day is the most important day for Rushil, he has been talking about it for months and one of the reasons he has stuck to soccer this year. All week, he has been arranging mock running races with his friends at the complex and the last 2 nights after dinner, he and Prasad have been practicing on the walking track. Yesterday he was telling me he was nervous and wasn't sure if he was going to be fast enough but he wanted a medal very badly. He was more nervous than Sindhu who had her math exam today, she merrily skipped to the bus stop this morning without a care in the world :-)
Rushil made it to the finals for the 50m and 100m races which is impressive in itself. The final race for the 50m dash is Friday but they had the finals for the 100m today. Unfortunately, he didn't win a medal for the event and the euphoria of making it to the finals disappeared and he was utterly disappointed. They announced the winners of the long jump and again no luck. We were hopeful for the ball throw (shotput) but by now Rushil was quickly losing hope. One of the teachers said, he wasn't on the list so Rushil dragged me off the field so we could go home. But, his teacher called and there was a mistake and Rushil won a silver medal for ball throw! He was elated! 50m race is Friday, it will be competitive but even if he doesn't won, I hope he will be proud that he gave it his best shot, we certainly are.

Congratulations to Rushil.
You should keep him on going on the track and field stuff - he will be really good and it will help in any sport that he wishes to play.
